ABSTRACT

Intellectual Property (IP) is a key business tool that can enhance profit margins, market share, and name recognition. In addition to trade marks, patents and copyrights, an important aspect of intellectual property is industrial designs.

This seminar will feature various aspects of intellectual property rights with the main focus on how to secure and safeguard rights in Industrial Designs. This would include international design protection under the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement, which enables you to obtain protection in all its signatory states with relative ease.

To harness and reap the value of your intellectual capital, it is important to identify, protect, exploit and enforce your IPR. Thus, it is essential to know about the aspects of IP and how it may affect or add value to your business.

TOPICS

SPRING-IPOS IPM for SMEs Programme

By Kenneth Woo, Senior Assistant Director of Enterprise Development Division, IPOS

IPOS's vision is to foster a creative Singapore where ideas and intellectual efforts are valued, developed and exploited. To realise this vision, three key areas of focus have been identified: (i) Strengthening IP regime, (ii) Enabling IP capabilities, and (iii) Positioning Singapore in the IP arena.

Enterprise Development Department (EDD) helps to drive the portfolio on enabling IP capabilities, specifically in the area of developing Intellectual Property Management (IPM) capabilities in public and private sectors at the organizational level. The aim is to enable organizations to better utilize their intangible assets and increase their competitive advantage. Early this year in January 2007, IPOS had launched an IPM for SMEs Programme aimed at helping local companies build up their IPM capabilities.
